The Avengers movie has been in the pipes for a long time now from April 2005 when Marvel received a grant from Merill Lynch and after Iron Man‘s successful debut it was given April 2011 as it’s release date but when Scarlett Johansson joined the cast in 2009 the release date was pushed to July 2012. Originally Zak Penn who wrote the screenplay for The Incredible Hulk, X-Men the Last Stand and a whole bunch of other successful films wrote the screenplay for The Avengers but in 2010 Joss Whedon who created Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel and the film Serenity came on board to direct and rewrote the screenplay.
The Avengers has come a long way from it’s first issue in 1963 following the success of DC’s Justice league. Originally the cast consisted of Iron Man, Ant-Man (Dr Hank Pym), Wasp (Janet Van Dyne), Thor and The Hulk. Over the years the cast has changed and stories have overlapped as it always does in the comic universe. Spider-Man also became part of the Avengers at one point pending the Civil War saga.
The movie cast though will consist of:
Robert Downey Jr. as IronmanTony Stark
we all know who Ironman is
Chris Hemsworth as Thor
Prince of Asgard
Chris Evans as Captain AmericaSteve Rogers
All American Hero, good old cap
Mark Ruffalo as HulkDr. Bruce Banner
Hulk Smash, would’ve preferred Edward Norton
Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury
Director of S.H.I.E.L.D.
Scarlett Johansson as Black WidowNatasha Romanoff
Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. and a killing machine
Jeremy Renner as HawkeyeClint Barton
One of the coolest archers in comic book history
Tom Hiddelston as Loki
Thor’s evil brother and the main villain
Cobie Smulders as Maria Hill
Took over as S.H.I.E.L.D. director when Nick Fury went AWOL
From what I’ve read the story is set that Loki (Tom Hiddelston) comes to Earth to enslave humanity and of course Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) can’t have that. Nicky Fury recruits Iron Man, Thor, Captain America and The Incredible Hulk to protect humanity and vanquish this evil.
Okay, i know this kind of story is seriously overdone but it’s a comic book movie and it’s the first cross over comic book movie so that by itself deserves an open minded judgement. To be perfectly honest I’m not the biggest fan of Zak Penn or Joss Whedon. I think that Zak Penn has had a few exceptionally successful films but also quiet a few that sucked so bad it made me cry. Joss Whedon to me should just stay in television and never do films because i honestly haven’t enjoyed any of his films. I mean Serenity really sucked ass. I tried to watch it so many times and just couldn’t but that is only MY opinion. Please, don’t think this as a bash Joss Whedon paragraph. I have faith in the guy because Marvel has faith in the guy and Marvel has only made a poor decision in one film….Ang Lee’s Hulk (what the hell was that about??)
This movie has the potential to be one of the biggest super hero productions ever made with an estimated budget of $220 million. I think we should be pretty excited or at least curious and as always Stan Lee will be doing a cameo unless they “shoot it on the moon” as his twitter account stated a few months back.
